Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida has revealed that there are plans for at least two more expansions after the upcoming Dawntrail release. The critically acclaimed MMO RPG has been running since 2013 and has gained a dedicated fanbase thanks to the continuous support of Yoshida and his team. Yoshida made the announcement during the recent Final Fantasy 14 FanFest event, where he also provided details about the expanded free trial and upcoming Fan Fest events.

The Dawntrail expansion, set to release in summer 2024, will be the fifth expansion pack for the game. Yoshida mentioned in an interview with Famitsu that he has at least two more expansions in mind after Dawntrail, indicating that the story of Final Fantasy 14 will continue to expand. He also humorously mentioned that he hopes to release at least three more expansions before he turns 60 years old.

Regarding the story’s length after Dawntrail, Yoshida explained that the team didn’t initially plan for an interconnected story leading to the Endwalker expansion. However, they wanted to tie up loose ends and provide a satisfying conclusion to the story, so they scattered hints throughout previous expansions. The length and size of the story in the upcoming 7.0 update will depend on the audience’s reaction.

For new players interested in joining Final Fantasy 14, there is an expanded free trial available. This trial now includes the base game, the Heavensward expansion, and the Stormblood expansion, with no playtime limits. Additionally, players’ job classes can be raised up to level 70. More information about the Dawntrail expansion will be revealed during upcoming Fan Fest events, such as the London Fan Festival and the Tokyo Fan Fest.
